Preparing for the proverbial rainy day 

There maybe times when you may need to vary from your daily routine in diabetes management especially when you are sick or are traveling. So here are a few things you need to do to prepare for those occasions. 

When you are sick 

when you are sick, even with a cold, your blood sugar is going to rise so it is prudent to create a sick-day plan that will handle such an emergency when it a rises. 

  1. Do not stop taking your meds unless you are instructed by the doctor

  2. Dont take other meds without consulting the doctor

  3. Stay on your blood sugar levels by testing often

  4. Hydrate every hour on sugar free fluids

  5. stic to your meal plan, but if you cant have solid foods then try jello, frozen pops or fruit juice. 

When you travel 

when you travel you have to keep a few pointers in mind

  1. Always remember to hydrate

  2. Keep your diabetes kit handy

  3. Carry extra snacks with you

  4. Keep your regular meal and exercise shedule if you can

  5. Do not get sedimented you can get up and walk in the isle every few hours

  6. If crossing timezones remember to adjust your medicine shedule.

  7. Wear diabetes Identification

  8. Take your diabetes kit everywhere you go.

  9. Keep fast acting sugar within reach

  10. Natural disasters, traffic accidents, and even traffic jams can disrupt normal routines so please be prepared.
