Hey Elisa
First let me applaud you for making positive changes for your life Diabetes can be quite an
overwhelming disease to manage but a lot of us have done and you can too. A suggestion I would give to you is reach out to others, there are diabetes support groups in many areas and they can definitively help. You are
welcome to join us here and I can help with any question and issues you might have.
Good luck and remember giving up hope is the greatest loss you can have in this fight.

Hi, my name is Elisa, and I'm a recovering addict. I've had diabetes since I was 8 years old, I'm now 23. I've stopped using and I try to practice the 12 step program, but I still can't do anything with my diabetes, I'm so stuck, misserable, I feel like I will never take care of myself... it is the same as addiction, i lie, i slowly kill myself, i couldn't care less... I don't know how to surrender against this disease, please help.

I've been reading about addiction for years, and I've never heard it compared to diabetes. But yes they parallel each other very much.

The three pillars of diabetes management are diet, exercise and self monitoring which includes diabetes medication and self testing at home. Those three Pillars are the only key to effective management.

Diabetes today is mostly caused by a lifestyle that has less exercise and too much sugar. Diabetes can be easily avoided by just doing simple exercises each day like jogging and avoiding sugars. If you already have diabetes, exercise is still the best way to manage it. Food supplements like Charantia and Chromium also helps.
