The artificial pancreas is considered the “Holy Grail” in Diabetes management and is one of the Focal points of this year’s Diabetes Technology Meeting, which is presented by the  the diabetes technology society and is being held  in Bethesda Maryland on Nov 11-13  2010

The meeting’s goal is to assemble technology developers and users to facilitate creation of new and cost-effective tools including  the artificial pancreas to help people with diabetes.

This year’s Diabetes Technology Meeting will include sessions on:

  • Technologies for Metabolic Monitoring
  • Biomarkers for Early Diagnosis of Diabetes
  • Artificial Pancreas: Performance of Closed Loop Systems
  • Alternative Delivery Routes for Insulin
  • Diabetes Telemedicine
  • Panel on Improving Adherence to Therapy
  • As well as a live demonstration of some of the products  on the diabetes technology radar including the  Artificial Pancreas project.

Aggressive research in diabetes technology IS pushing  for more advanced solutions to diabetes, including novel insulin delivery methods, pancreas transplants, islet cell transplants, stem cell approaches, antibody treatment, vaccines, novel drugs, new continuous blood glucose monitoring systems and  a closed-loop blood glucose monitoring and insulin pump system, which is one diabetes technology product that may be approved for marketing in the very near future.

These diabetes technology products represent an enormous $36 billion global market annually, encompassing insulin, blood glucose meters, lancets, test strips, insulin pumps, syringes (and other delivery devices), continuous blood glucose meters and a broad range of anti-diabetic drugs (oral hypoglycemic agents) and other advancements in diabetes technology.

Like a jacques lemans watch, Innovation and functionality as well as a coolness factor are  being sewn into the fabric of some of the new diabetes technology products coming to market today and from this meeting, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate emerging technologies for measuring analytes affected by diabetes
  • Define what is a biomarker for type 2 diabetes
  • Identify barriers to development of an artificial pancreas
  • List two new methods for insulin and metabolic peptide delivery besides needle and sponge injections
  • Identify two necessary components of effective telemedicine solutions for diabetes care
  • Describe technologies for improving adherence to diabetes therapy

While diabetes technology efforts are being dispersed in the search for a cure, it is the status of development of novel products including noninvasive monitoring, oral/inhaled/other insulin delivery that is the focal point until that happens.

I hope to see you all at the Diabetes Technology Conference

  1. An extract from my website re Diabetes Management

Introducing the new weapon in Diabetes Management. The new product is the latest member of the product family and a major step forward in nutrition science.
As part of a healthy lifestyle, the new product has been clinically shown to help to maintain healthy blood sugar levels, aid Diabetes Management and support weight loss
 This revolutionary formula brings together — for the first time ever — many cutting-edge nutritional ingredients clinically shown to support blood sugar levels management after diabetes symptoms have emerged, and promote overall health. Now you have a powerful new ally in the wellness war.
Is there any research to support the product’s effectiveness?
 Yes. In an eight-week, placebo-controlled clinical study of some fifty (50) overweight individuals with moderately elevated blood sugar levels and exhibiting diabetes symptoms and requiring Diabetes Management, test subjects taking four daily servings of the product as a meal replacement and participating in a diet and exercise program lowered their fasting blood glucose by an average of 30%.
They lost an average of nearly 16 pounds, while their BMI (body mass index) improved from an average of 26.8 down to 24.5, back into the healthy range. No significant glucose lowering or weight loss was found in the control group.
 Also, the active ingredients in the product have been clinically shown to help support blood sugar management & Diabetes Management and promote overall health.
Who should take the product ?
 Anyone seeking nutritional support, as part of a healthy lifestyle, for help with maintaining healthy blood sugar levels after showing Diabetes Symptoms, and aiding in weight management.
Does the product cure metabolic syndrome and prevent diabetes?
 No. Like all company’s products, this product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. It is instead a nutritional supplement designed to support blood sugar management and aid in weight loss as part of a healthy lifestyle of proper diet and exercise
Can I take the product if I have exhibited Diabetes Symptoms or hypoglycemic?
 If you are diabetic or hypoglycemic consult your doctor before taking the Product. It should be consumed by those receiving treatment for blood sugar-related conditions only as part of a physician-approved program

Testimony- Tremendous Results at a Critical Time
For Angela Hosman of Surprise, Arizona, the new product could not have arrived at a more critical time.
“My blood sugar levels were dangerously high, between 300 and 400, and the neuropathy in my feet had spread all the way to my knees,” Angela says. “My doctor informed me that, if I didn’t get my blood sugar under control, I would lose my legs by the time I was 35 — and that my only option was an insulin pump, a highly invasive procedure which I was desperate to avoid.”
Introduced to the product by her mother-in-law, Angela began taking the product “religiously” four times a day. “After six weeks on the product, my blood sugar had dropped to a normal range of between 80 and 100!” Angela states
And that wasn’t the only thing that dropped during those six weeks. “I also lost 13 pounds,” she reports. “And, since I’ve started taking the basic nutrition, I’ve lost a total of 29 pounds — That’s 19 percent of my body weight! I feel absolutely awesome, and I’ve been told that the sparkle is back in my eyes.”
