Diabetes health vs heart health vs pain relief
As much as your heart and diabetes are intertwined, it has come to my realization that they should be polar opposites for the irrevocable harm they do to each other.
It is a well chronicled fact that diabetes related heart disease is the most dangerous of diabetes complications resulting in the highest fatality, yet on a daily basis with diabetes, we are doing irreparable damage to the heart and vice-versus.
For the longest of times, my breakfast consisted of a bowl of old fashioned oatmeal, its been so long that I honestly don’t remember if I did this oatmeal experiment before I added it to my diet or if I had just bought into the advertisement as good for the health of my heart.
Little did I know however that the oats were causing me blood sugar spikes until I read about it this morning and decided to do the experiment. I normally make my oats plain with about 4 ounces of skim milk and with my regular breakfast prepared, I started the experiment with a bg level of 104. A n hour later I was at 178.
Why did I miss it for so long goes on my regular routine, I normally will test my fasting sugars then take my daily dose of Metformin then have my bowl of old fashioned oats, by the time I test pre lunch my numbers are somewhat back to normal thanks to the Metformin. While I may not feel the post breakfast highs, I wonder just how much those few minute to an hour of high’s does for the long term effects.
Good for my heart health maybe bad for my diabetes definitely……
The low carb high fat Atkins-esque diet that many diabetics use had the opposite effect for me in my post what diabetic diet is the most effective for you, I chronicled how the diet did wonders for my bg levels but did a number on my triglycerides , catapulting them to critical levels, In the human body, high levels of triglycerides in the bloodstream have been linked to atherosclerosis, and, by extension, the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Good for my diabetes sure, bad for my heart most definitely.
Join Pain is another matter all together,
Muscle Stimulators are the latest and best of choices in Pain Relief but as stated earlier most of the time a pain solution might not be whats best for my diabetes.
Stimulating the injured muscle using TENS Units and Ultrasound Units increases muscle tone in essence helping the muscle to start growing and repairing which means that a combo like the LG-TEC Dual Combo TENS Unit and Muscle Stimulator can effectively be applied to rehab an injured muscle. For a diabetic his is critical because while Injuries are a part of exercise, so is exercise being an essential part of diabetes management.
